Walk Across the Delaware
A year of movement. A journey of your own.
Make a little more room for movement in 2027. Join neighbors across Delaware County in a year-long walking challenge that celebrates your progress, one mile at a time.
January 1–December 31, 2027 · All ages and fitness levels welcome
What It Is
1,400 miles. Your pace. Every step counts.
Delaware County covers approximately 1,400 square miles. That’s the inspiration behind Walk Across the Delaware: a challenge to work toward 1,400 walking miles throughout 2027.
You choose where to walk, when to walk, and how far to go. Explore a local trail, take a lunchtime loop, or head to the treadmill on a snowy day. Your miles add up wherever and whenever you move.
And you don’t have to walk 1,400 miles to have a year worth celebrating. Whether you finish with 25 miles or 1,400, this is about building a habit that works for you.

How It Works
Sign up. Get moving. Watch your miles add up.
- Register for the challenge. Take the first step toward a more active year.
- Walk your way. Choose a pace and distance that fits your life. Outdoor walks and treadmill miles count, and participants using wheelchairs or mobility aids are welcome.
- Record your miles. Keep track with a phone, fitness tracker, treadmill display, or paper log. Online submission and paper-log submission details will be available before the challenge begins.
- Celebrate your progress. Earn recognition as you reach milestones throughout the year, starting with your first five miles. We also want to celebrate your progress with you! Feel free to share selfies, social media posts and photos on our Facebook Page and use #WalkAcrosstheDelaware2027.
This is an individual challenge, so your miles belong to you. There are no team totals or rankings—just encouragement to keep going.
Join the Challenge
Give yourself something to look forward to in 2027.
Maybe you’d like to spend more time outside, build a regular walking routine, or have a little extra motivation to get moving. Whatever brings you here, you’re welcome.
The challenge is open to all ages and fitness levels, with a focus on our Delaware County community. Participants under 18 will need permission from a parent or guardian.
Start with a goal that feels right for you. We’ll celebrate the milestones along the way.
Registration is coming soon. The challenge begins January 1, 2027.
Find Somewhere to Walk
Your next mile could be closer than you think.
A familiar neighborhood loop. A nearby trail. A few laps indoors. You don’t need a special route to take part.
Explore local walking options to find a place that fits your day, your comfort level, and the season. When outdoor conditions aren’t suitable, treadmill walking counts, too.
Choose routes and distances that work for you, and check weather and trail conditions before heading out.

Track Your Progress
A few miles here. A few miles there. A year of progress.
Keep a record of your walks and submit your mileage so we can recognize your achievements.
Prefer digital? An online mileage form will be available when the challenge begins.
Prefer paper? Record your dates and distances on a walking log. Instructions for submitting it by mail or email will be available before the challenge begins.
There’s something to celebrate from the start:
| Miles | Milestone |
|---|---|
| 5 | First Steps |
| 25 | Finding Your Stride |
| 100 | Delaware County Explorer |
| 500 | Summit Seeker |
| 1,000 | Master of the Miles |
| 1,400 | Walk Across Delaware Champion |
With milestones throughout the year, you’ll have plenty of reasons to celebrate—and encouragement to take your next step.

Can I register myself and my child/children?
Yes! Participation is encouraged for people of all ages. If your child/children are under 18, they need parent participation to register.

Do I need a fitness tracker or smartphone?
No. A paper log works, too.
